Savoury waffles: a new trend in Antwerp?
“Discover the ultimate culinary experience that brings together sweet and savoury.”
From the selection of as much as 7 different kinds of savoury waffles, we chose the Korean beef waffle burger, Goat cheese, Smoked salmon and BBQ chicken waffle. As soon as they arrived at the table, we couldn’t wait to dig in! The waffles were baked to perfection and generously topped with fresh, quality ingredients. Each waffle was a real taste-bomb. At Salt ‘n Sugar you definitely get what you pay for, these large waffles will fill you up for the entire afternoon. Another bonus of course, because size does matter when it comes to food.
The sweet bakery
On top of serving savoury waffles, Salt ‘n Sugar is also a bakery. They have fresh, homemade bread, croissants, NY rolls (aka round croissants), little cakes, pastries, maxi macarons and so much more. Even though we had already eaten our fill of waffles, we still tried some items from the bakery. The NY rolls were crispy on the outside and deliciously soft on the inside with the most amazing filling. Even the regular croissants did not disappoint. Finger licking good!
Cosy and quiet atmosphere
Salt ‘n Sugar is located on ‘t Eilandje, not far from het MAS. So you won’t have to worry about the crowds of the city centre, you can just relax on the patio and enjoy your lunch. Prefer a spot inside? No problem, Salt ‘n Sugar had ample tables to choose from. The light and open interior design with hints of green combined with some soft music make for a quiet and cosy atmosphere. The perfect spot to relax with a nice breakfast or lunch. Once you’re full, you can take a scenic walk around the MAS or along the Schelde.
Don’t want to make the trip to ‘t Eilandje? Salt ‘n Sugar has two more location, one in the city centre and one in Schoten.
Overall, savoury waffles might just be our new favourite way to eat waffles in Antwerp. We are definitely going back to Salt ‘n Sugar very soon!
