Restaurant De Veehandel (the livestock store) has a slaughterhouse nearby so the meat is a fresh as can be. Often you'll see generous pieces of steak being carried directly inside on a platter. Food at his freshest. Come have a taste! Fine cuts of meat with tender and melt-in-mouth texture. The traditional French interior enables you to experience what Belgians are famous for: enjoying life. Try everything on the menu, from Holsteiner and Aubrac to Galician Rib-Eye, all matured up to eight weeks. The house specialty is 'Limoges', a T-bone steak for two from cattle of Limoges in southern France. De Veehandel is not the cheapest meat restaurant in Antwerp, but it applies fair prices: in return for what you pay, you get quality, comfortable surroundings and a top culinary meat experience.
The north of Antwerp has gained another top venue. Nikolaj Kovdaland and Sven Wille transformed the old coach house at the Park Spoor Noord into a culinary oasis with the use of islands of ferns and trees. In the open kitchen, the heart of the business, dishes with a Scandinavian and Oriental touch are prepared. Wild salmon, Simmentaler T-bone steak, lamb from Lozer… at Gånord (Danish for 'go north'), are proof you will only find the best of the best on your plate. Moreover, that plate is not just a plate, but a handmade piece made by a local potter, like all the other china. Sven and Nikolaj are inspired by the wabi-sabi philosophy. Simplicity is key. And that is exactly what their cuisine is about with its pure flavours and local organic produce. But also the natural wines, crafted cocktails, special fermentation techniques and even the interior. This unique environment with its red brick walls, weathered wooden ceilings and soft earth tones, was designed by Sven and Nikolaj in collaboration with designer Anja Schwerbrock. The area around the Boomgaardstraat is in full bloom and one of its attractions is, of course, Brewery De Koninck, with its legendary "bolleke" rich beer this place is a universal Ambassador for Antwerp. De Hand is the brewery's pub and the place to sample its beers and to enjoy complementary dishes that share a lot of qualities with the local nectar of the gods: traditional, delicious and unpretentious. At the cosy bistro, you can enjoy snacks, including an 'uitsmijter' (sandwich with egg sunny-side up) or a homemade burger, a steamy pasta, a crisp wok dish, a delicious salad or a delectable fish dish.
