What’s better than a plate full of goodies? An etagere full of goodies during afternoon tea!

The sun is finally out, spring seems to be well and truly on its way, and nothing screams spring like wonderfully decadent afternoon tea served in a cute flowery set, right? Well, we’ve just found the perfect spot for you!

DelReY pastry, chocolate and tea room

Pastry and chocolate shop DelReY has been a well-known name in Antwerp for generations. Set up on the foundations of a bonbon and waffle shop in the ‘40s, their store at Appelmansstraat 5 has welcomed countless customers over the years. But DelReY is not just a shop selling delicious sweets. Right next to the counter is a door that leads straight to a lovely tea room and lounge serving a wonderful breakfast, lunch, and, of course, afternoon tea.

Real afternoon tea

As is customary, your afternoon tea is served on a delicate etagere and with a cute flowery tea set. And, as is also customary, you get served a nice selection of savoury bites, scones, and sweet desserts. Every single thing was finger-licking good!

Aside from the classic triangular sandwiches, filled with delicious egg salad by the way, there were various hot and cold savoury bits. The breaded goat cheese with mango chutney, for example, was delightfully refreshing and slightly spicy.

After the savoury tier come the scones. Spread a good layer of jam and lime clotted cream on the home made scones, and get a tea refill before you attack the last tier, the desserts.

The top-most tier of the etagere contains a few mini versions of the different cakes they have on display in the shop, macarons, and the fluffiest chocolate mousse you’ve ever seen. Every single one of these desserts is absolutely delicious. We honestly expected nothing less from a pastry shop that has been around for as long as DelReY has!

A little something to take home

After you’ve eaten your fill of sweet and savoury goodies, you pass by the counter on your way out, which is perfect really! This gives you the opportunity to get a little something to take home and share with friends or family, or to finish off all by yourself of course! Enjoy!
