World Pasta Day

What’s that saying… a pasta a day?
Did you know that there is an international ‘holiday’ for pasta? Not surprising really, I don’t think anyone would say no to a good bowl of pasta. World Pasta Day came to be because of the first World Pasta Congress in 1995, that was held on 25 October. And you’ll never guess where… Rome! During the congress, it was decided that every year on the same date, pasta would be put in the spotlight once again.
And if there is one holiday we are more than happy to celebrate, it’s World Pasta Day. So obviously, we’ve got another great list of restaurants ready for you. Enjoy!
Diamant
Restaurant Gran Duca on De Keyserlei, smack-bang in the middle of the Diamant neighbourhood, guarantees impressive Italian enjoyment. Located on the sixth floor of the Hyllit hotel, Gran Duca’s terrace provides a panoramic view of Antwerp Central Station and De Keyserlei. This sophisticated restaurant brings the essence of Mediterranean cuisine right to the heart of Antwerp. And they do it so well that they’ve even received the rating of ‘best Italian restaurant in Antwerp’ from various critics. Keen to try some of the classic pasta dishes, but with a culinary twist? Gran Duca is the place to be!
’t Eilandje
From fine Mediterranean cuisine to a cosy eatery at La Pipe d’Anvers on ‘t Eilandje. La Pipe d’Anvers exudes a pleasant, authentic vibe and is the perfect place to have a relaxed lunch or dinner with a view of the river and the new Schengenplein. Aside from a whole list of well-loved classics, you can also enjoy a delicious portion of the Chef’s bolognes, pasta pesto, or pasta vongolé. Don’t feel like cooking but do feel like having a good, classic bowl of pasta? We can highly recommend La Pipe d’Anvers.
Historic City Centre
Next on the list, Pasta-Hippo-Vino. This Italian-French restaurant has been around for over 30(!) years and is located in the middle of the Historic City Centre, very close to the Cathedral. Do you want pasta with fish, meat, or vegetables? Pasta-Hippo-Vino has it all. And even if you have allergies or dietary restrictions, the kitchen team will try their absolute best to conjure up a delicious meal for you. Don’t forget to take a peek at the wine menu while you’re there! Because Pasta-Hippo-Vino isn’t just a restaurant, it’s also a wine bar with a pretty unique concept. You can order sample sizes of 3cl and half glasses of 8cl and have yourself a true wine tasting. Found your new favourite wine? Then go ahead and order a full glass to go with your delicious bowl of pasta.
’t Nieuw Zuid
‘t Nieuw Zuid is still pretty new (see what I did there), but we’ve already found a pasta place for you. Italian restaurant Trattoria Boretti serves a wide selection of homemade pasta and typical Italian starters. Pasta with meat or fish, veggie or vegan, they’ve got something for everyone.
Linkeroever
Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, on the calm Linkeroever, you can also enjoy a delicious pasta. Restaurant De Zeester, a fish and seafood restaurant, also serves four different pasta dishes. You can take your pick from lasagna, pasta scampi, bolognese, and a veggie pasta. The casual vibe, friendly staff, and beautiful view of the river Scheldt make De Zeester the perfect spot to relax with a nice bowl of pasta.
Theatre District
A little veggie and vegan intermission with De Broers van Julienne in the Theatre District. This fully vegetarian restaurant has a large menu of veggie, plant-based, and gluten-free options. This includes two different veggie lasagnas and a wonderful oven pasta dish. Do you not eat meat, fish, or chicken, and want to have a meal without having to dig through a menu to find something you can eat? Or, are you a meat-eater looking to try something new? Hurry and book a table at De Broers van Julienne!
’t Zuid
Last but not least, ‘t Zuid. Just like with the other neighbourhoods, we’ve also found a great restaurant for you: Ferrier 30. Dit restaurant takes inspiration from the traditional Italian cuisine, and gives every dish their own, contemporary twist. Ferrier 30 focuses on fresh, high-quality ingredients and on the experience of their guests. It’s extremely important to them that everyone feels welcome as soon as they walk through the door. Aside from delicious Italian meat and fish dishes, there are also five different pasta dishes to choose from, two of which are vegetarian. Enjoy all the best that the Italian cuisine has to offer and the wonderful atmosphere at Ferrier 30.
